Filmmaker Anayansi Prado emigrated from Panama to the United States as a teenager, but her journey didn’t end there. She joins us tonight as the University of Louisville Minx Auerbach lecturer in women’s and gender studies, discussing her work in her public talk “Insider/Observer: The Immigrant Experience Through the Lens.” Founder of Impacto Films, a production company for documentaries geared toward social impact, awareness and change, her documentaries explore the challenges of Latino immigration to the United States, including “Maid in America” and “Children in No-Man’s Land.” Her current project, “Give Us Your Retired, Your Rich, Your Americans,” investigates the trend of retired Americans that immigrate to Panama and their impact on the culture. —Jane Mattingly
