To say that Beth Cavener Stichter creates animals out of clay is like saying Frankenstein was a do-it-yourself project. True, but …
“There are primitive, animal instincts lurking in our own depths, waiting for the chance to slide past a conscious moment,” she says. “The sculptures I create focus on human psychology, stripped of context and rationalization, and articulated through animal and human forms.”
Cavener Stichter will be in Louisville for events co-sponsored by 21c, U of L Hite Art Institute and Louisville Clay. The U of L workshop is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, followed by her talk at 6 p.m. at 21c. The workshop continues on Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Both are free. —Jo Anne Triplett
