With the endless butchering of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Wayne, Garth and various “American Idol” contestants, it’s easy to forget Queen was, in fact, a magnificent rock band. Gary Mullen and his band, The Works, never overlooked that. Their covers of classic Queen earned them worldwide recognition, and even a blessing from original guitarist Brian May himself: “Gary bears a remarkable likeness to Freddie, not only in emulating Freddie’s unique stage persona but also accurately reproducing Freddie’s live vocal style and range.” Guitarist Davie Brockett, bassist Billy Moffat and drummer Jonathan Evans round out this revivalist ensemble. —Mat Herron
