From press release: In recognition of his remarkable & enduring contribution to our understanding of the medical uses of cannabis, the Louisville Late Night TV Show is celebrating our 9th annual “Lester Grinspoon Day” on June 24, 2009. Dr. Grinspoon, retired Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the Harvard School of Medicine, has authored more than 140 articles in scientific journals & 12 books including his landmark study of medicinal cannabis, “Marihuana the Forbidden Medicine”& “Marihuana Reconsidered.” A former editor of the Harvard Mental Health Newsletter, Dr. Grinspoon has also served as Chairman of the national Board of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). In addition to this, Dr. Grinspoon has tirelessly traveled the world over lecturing to medical students & meeting with leaders helping to bring a greater understanding and an end to the prohibition against marijuana. Dr. Grinspoon is a frequent lecturer on drug policy issues & has appeared as an expert witness before legislative committees in several states & several committees of the U.S. congress. In 1990 he received the Alfred R. Lindesmith Award for Achievement in the Field of Scholarship & Writing from the Drug Policy Foundation in Washington D.C.. During the past year Dr. Grinspoon has been a primary contributor to drug related programs on The History Channel. This month Dr. Grinspoon again reappears in “The Union Movie” to be released on Showtime, www.theunionmovie.com.
