The musical summer season kicks off with three Broadway classics at the Kentucky Center. In “Mame” (June 26-July 3), a Manhattan socialite struggles through hardships after losing everything in the stock market crash. In the classic musical “Singin’ in the Rain” (July 10-19), a studio executive struggles to convert a new silent film into a “talkie.” Thanks to some impressive stagehands, the production even comes complete with a rainstorm on stage. Originally from the filthy mind of John Waters, “Hairspray” (July 31-Aug. 9) has evolved into a classic involving segregation and self-esteem that ends with everyone feeling warm and fuzzy inside. For toe-tapping musical fun, look no further than Music Theatre Louisville this summer. —Farrah Johnson
