Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band @ Headliners

Tuesday, June 30

Headliners Music Hall
1386 Lexington Road
$20 (adv.), $22 (door); 8 p.m.

You might know Conor Oberst as the earnest mastermind behind the iconic emo outfit Bright Eyes. But when he comes through town with his new backing act, The Mystic Valley Band, you won’t recognize much unless you’ve heard his 2008 self-titled solo debut, or last month’s follow-up Outer South. “We pretty much stick to The Mystic Valley Band songs,” guitarist Taylor Hollingsworth says. “We will do a few covers, we’ve done a Paul Simon song, and a John Prine song, but we’ve never played a Bright Eyes song.” Blending the angry folk Oberst is known for with a tinge of classic country works beautifully. Oberst brings The Mystic Valley Band to Headliners Tuesday, June 30, in support of Outer South. Deep Sea Diver and Michael Runion open the show. —Brent Owen
