“Part of the reason for (“A Brush With Portraits”) is to raise the awareness of portraiture in Louisville,” says artist/gallery owner Christy Zurkuhlen. “I think the only experience that most people have with portraiture is going to have their picture snapped. It is an opportunity for the public to see beautiful hand painted portraits (in) oil and pastel, also sculpture.”

The nine portrait artists in the exhibit are known local talents, including Catherine Bryant, Shayne Hull and David Schuster. David Ross Stevens is demonstrating portrait sculpture on Thursday, July 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and Joyce Sweets-Bryant will draw pastel portraiture on Saturday, July 25, from 1-2 p.m. Children 8-12 years old have their own self-portrait class on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 1-2:30 p.m. ($7 per child). —Jo Anne Triplett
