Through Aug. 29

Artist Barry Motes will unveil new paintings in an exhibit exemplifying spiritual themes and modern situations. Motes has exhibited his work nationally in more than 90 group or juried shows and 29 solo exhibits. He’s also won several grants and awards.

“The ‘Parables’ paintings were inspired by biblical stories that convey transcendent truths,” Motes said in a press release. “I have reinterpreted some of these stories using allegorical figures in surreal, contemporary landscapes, meant to challenge a cynical post-modern audience.”

The exhibit kicks off with a reception during the First Friday gallery hop on Aug. 7 from 5-9 p.m. —Farrah Johnson
