O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! The beamish boys and girls at Actors Theatre kick off their 2009-10 season with Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company’s playful adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s timeless and absurd children’s classic. Alice’s slip through the mirror takes her into a dimension where flowers sass back and chess pieces carry out their own political intrigues — where we are asked to stretch the boundaries of our imaginations and believe the unbelievable. Written and directed by David Catlin, this production puts Lookingglass Company’s tumbling talents and acrobatic proclivities on full display as Alice, Humpty Dumpty, Tweedledum and Dee and queens White and Red bend time and space into a surreal swirl of maddening riddles and delightful magic. —Erin Keane
