At once a virtuoso but with a sense of soul and, when the song calls for it, sass, Vienna Teng’s path to greatness might well be sealed with Inland Territory, the follow-up to 2006’s Dreaming Through The Noise. Her second for the Rounder/ZOE stable, Teng channels grandmotherly wisdom, found sound ingenuity and orchestral accompaniment that complement her supple voice. She’s got all-stars behind the boards (Eddie Jackson, who mixed James Taylor, Patti Sciafla) and scoring this sucker, including violinist and concertmaster Rob Moose (Sufjan Stevens, Beth Orton), as well as guitar virtuoso Kaki King. The material brushes up against easy listening every now and again, but maybe there’s a better term for it: grace. —Mat Herron
