University of Louisville’s African-American Theatre Program, part of the Department of Theatre Arts, opens its fall season with a play about family and survival that covers many explosive topics. It’s “Come Down Burnin’,” by Kia Corthron, directed by Professor Nefertiti Burton. “Sometimes conditions force good people to make decisions that society may condemn,” Burton said regarding the controversial subjects examined in this play about two sisters who attempt to overcome obstacles of poverty, ignorance and disability to provide for their children. There will be after-play discussions between audience, cast and guests for most performances. —Laura Morton
