Paper Zoo

Saturday, Oct. 31

Horseshoe Casino and Hotel
11999 Casino Center Drive, Elizabeth, Ind.
$45-$75; 9 p.m.

Combining vocals that fall somewhere between Freddie Mercury and Iggy Pop with an experimental spacey rock reminiscent of earlier Flaming Lips, Paper Zoo manage to create a singular sound that is at once heavy and atmospheric, equal parts Pink Floyd and Lounge Lizard swing. Somehow in all this strangeness, they are also the kind of band that writes a theme song for themselves: Join us/We are the paper zoo/ Join us/We’ve saved a place for you. They have a definite sound that matches their outfits (long hair, skinny flared jeans, open button-up shirts), and somehow they fit perfectly on a bill with ex-Who frontman Roger Daltrey. Let’s just hope they try to upstage each other. With this band’s sound and Daltrey’s rep, I can only imagine where that would lead. —Pawl Schwartz
