Funny Ladies of the ’Ville @ Diamonds

Monday, Dec. 21

Free; 9 p.m. (open mic begins at 8)

Chicks are funny, and anyone who tells you otherwise probably doesn’t menstruate. The weekly “Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard” open-mic event at Diamonds Pub is leaning toward funny females Monday night. Hosted by Divinity Rose and Ed Snyder Black, the evening will feature live music by Jenrose Fitzgerald of the Kentucky Bootleggers and six Kentucky comediennes, including Audra Meighan (who has opened for Doug Stanhope), former prison guard Katy Bevins, newcomer Narina Kasabova, Kristen Estes, Shannon Miller, and Comedy Caravan’s Teresa McCammon. Meighan, who hails from Lexington, presents her bio in the form of a poem. It goes a little something like this: A girl from a Methodist town/Was the only Catholic around./’Cause this was ironic/She became a comic./This was the best job she found. —Sara Havens

I have to tell Sara that someone called me and told me about this and read it to me over the phone and we both died laughing over the opening line.

Aww, thanks. :) It’s true, though!
