The Louisville Orchestra Presents: “Vienna.” Mahler’s music and the city of Vienna are inseparable. At the dawn of the 20th century, the esteemed composer served as Principal Conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic. His fourth symphony was a response to Beethoven’s “Ninth,” the great composition incorporating themes of joy and utopia. This program is balanced by two works from one of Mahler’s mentors – Johannes Brahms, whose pieces in this concert both premiered with the Vienna Philharmonic.  From mentor to maestro, it is quintessential Vienna.
