FAT Friday — the Frankfort Avenue Trolley on the final Friday of the month, Jan. 28. Explore the art galleries, shops and restaurants along Frankfort, Story and Mellwood Avenues from 6-10 p.m. There’s free parking, then hop on and off the free trolley.
“Embrace and Release” at Kaviar Forge & Gallery, 1718 Frankfort Ave., 561-0377, consists of monochromatic paintings by artist Dawn Bunch. It’s on display from Jan. 28-Feb. 26. The Artist’s Reception is Friday, Jan. 28 from 6-9 PM in conjunction with the FAT Friday Trolley Hop. Recognized as a bold colorist painter, the disappearance of color from Bunch’s work came on drastically over the past few years upon a series of significant losses forcing her to restructure on many levels. “Embrace and Release” shows threads of personal loss in death, physical injury, and the devastation of the artist’s home state of Louisiana, first with Hurricane Katrina followed up by the destruction in the Gulf with the BP oil disaster.
Gallery Janjobe, Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center, 899-9293, will present “Go Green” from Jan. 28-March 20. Participating artists in various media interpret the theme in any way they choose – the color green, using recycled materials or whatever their imaginations concoct. The opening reception is during the Jan. 28 FAT Friday Trolley Hop from 6-9 p.m.
