Women Who Write, Inc., a Louisville-based writing organization, invites all women writers to enter the organization’s two annual writing contests.
Calliope Poetry and Short Prose Contest: Prizes are $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place. The winners’ works will be published inCalliope, the group’s annual anthology, and each winner will receive five copies of the book. The contest is open to women writers 18 years old or older. Entries must be previously unpublished and prose entries must be less than 3,000 words long. There is a $10 entry fee for each submission. The contest deadline is June 30, 2011.
“Home for the Holidays” Cookbook Stories and Recipes Contest: Writers who have a favorite holiday recipe and a great original story or poem to go with it are encouraged to enter the “Home for the Holidays” cookbook contest. Prizes are $100 for first place, $75 for second, and $50 for third; each winner will also receive a copy of the cookbook. The contest is open to women writers 18 years old or older. Each recipe and story must reflect the holiday theme; the story or poem cannot exceed 350 words. There is a $10 entry fee for each submission. The contest deadline is July 31, 2011.

Women Who Write is a non-profit organization of women writers with diverse backgrounds. The organization’s mission is to welcome, educate, support and encourage women who write and those who aspire to write. All women interested in writing, in any genre, at any level, are invited to attend the group’s monthly meetings, held on the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Highland-Shelby Park Library (reading room) in the Mid City Mall, Louisville.
