The Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 E. Spring St. in New Albany, 812-944-7336, is holding its opening reception for “Painted Portraits: City/Self” on Friday, Aug. 10 from 6-8 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and music by the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet at the opening reception (free and open to the public). This exhibit features paintings by four local artists: Ashley Brossart, Carlos Gamez de Francisco, Sarah LaBarge and Thaniel Ion Lee. The artworks of these four painters give us the opportunity to experience and compare their unique approaches to portraiture and to view ourselves and the cities within which we live in a new light.
