Frank X Walker reading at KMAC

Frank X Walker, Kentucky poet and founding member of the Affrilachian Poets, will be reading on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, 589-0102, 715 W. Main St. Free with museum admission.

Walker coined the word “Affrilachia” to make visible the black experience in the Appalachian South. He has authored five poetry collections, his most recent being about Isaac Murphy, the legendary African-American jockey who was a son of a slave that went on to be the first to win the Kentucky Derby¬†three times. He will also be reading an excerpt from his novel-in-progress as well as from a forthcoming collection of poems, “Turn Me Loose” The Unghosting of Medgar Evers¬†(University of Georgia Press, May, 2013).
