Here’s an easy little experiment for you: Try going a day without your car. How much can it hurt? You could take the bus, walk, ride a bike — you have options.

Tuesday is World Car-Free Day, which is one of the most self-explanatory events ever. Tim Darst, of the conservation group Kentucky Interfaith Power & Light, will celebrate by taking a 120-mile, 12-hour voyage around the city on a TARC bus, stopping at various locations to spread his gospel. “We hope to bring about an awareness of how our actions affect others and how there are more sustainable transportation options,” Darst says. “We are not asking people to get rid of their cars, only to use them conservatively.”
