Kaviar Forge & Gallery, 1718 Frankfort Ave., 561-0377, is now offering a blacksmithing class taught by master blacksmith Craig Kaviar. It will be from Jan. 19-Feb. 16 on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The cost is $400.

As Kentuckians, we take our bourbon seriously. We know the difference between bourbon and whiskey. We know the major distillers, and we know the best way to drink it is straight — don’t even think about adding Coke. If you want to know even more about our liquid cash crop, I recommend signing up for the Filson Bourbon Academy, an eight-hour class led by the Mr. Wizard of Bourbon, Mike Veach, who is in the Bourbon Hall of Fame. A mixture of history — the evolution from farmer distiller to modern distiller, Prohibition, etc. — and tastings, the Bourbon Academy will definitely give you enough knowledge to spout out at parties throughout the next year. Classes at Arts Council of Southern Indiana

The Arts Council of Southern Indiana, 812-949-4238, 820 E. Market St. in New Albany, is offering art and craft classes for children and adults beginning Sept. 6. Classes for youth feature dance, printmaking, origami, multi-media and found objects. Adults can choose from classes in beginning drawing, printmaking, oil painting, quilt making, intro to glass or stone sculpture and blacksmithing. Some of the classes meet only once, while others last from four to eight weeks.

Beginning July 9, the Arts Council of Southern Indiana, 812-949-4238, will begin offering art classes in its newly renovated Carriage House Classroom, 820 E. Market St. in New Albany. Classes will be available for children (8 -12), teens (13 – 17) and adults (18 and up). Taught by area artists, the classes for children include multi-media, photography, glass, found objects and dream catchers. Beginning drawing, introduction to oil painting, blacksmithing, and glass classes are available for adults. An added attraction for adults: Julie Schweitzer, the Arts Council’s executive director, will provide enlightening monthly visits to area galleries and meet their owners and exhibiting artists.

K.A.S. Gallery Camp

Register your child for 1/2 a day or a full day of camp at K.A.S. Gallery, Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, 614-5733. Your child will start his or her day at 8:30 a.m. with a 30-minute yoga class by a registered yoga instructor. At 9:15 a.m., we will get your child moving with a dance class. Kids will learn Jazz, Modern, Tap, Ballet and Hip Hop. At 11:30 a.m., the half-day camp ends with an art class by certified art instructors.

If you are interested in a full day of fun, kids will learn the techniques of acting and skits with Casandre Medel. This portion of the camp runs from 1-3 p.m.
