The Kentuckiana Heritage Consortium. a network of historical sites in the Louisville metropolitan area that provide educational programming, is proud to present a new program, History on the Move, for young people and their families. Participants visit four member sites of the Kentuckiana Heritage Consortium and participate in a program at each one to receive a stamp in a History on the Move brochure. Programs at each site can include a tour, a special program just for kids, a cruise, or a talk by someone who works at the site to tell their story. The completed brochure is then mailed in for a Certificate of Achievement (all participants receive this) and a chance to win a prize. The drawing will be held in August of each year and the winners notified by mail.

History on the Move participants can choose from many historic sites. Hours of operation, address, and admission prices can be found for each site at www.louisvillehistory.org.

$15; 2 p.m.

The annual beginning of spring is magnificent for oh-so-many reasons. For local lovers of music and/or education, it means it’s also time for the Louisville Leopard Percussionists’ annual “Big Gig” — and this year is an even bigger celebration, their 20th anniversary! Founded by award-winning educator Diane Downs, the ever-evolving group of more than 60 7-12-year-old students from over 25 schools has been featured in a fun and inspirational documentary, “The Leopards Take Manhattan: The Little Band That Roared,” which airs often on HBO, and one graduate, Hannah Ford, recently earned a job as a drummer in Prince’s band. Having opened for My Morning Jacket (at Waterfront Park) and Chick Corea, these kids remind adults how un-self-conscious and fun music can be. —Peter Berkowitz

The French documentary “Le Monde Du Silence (The Silent World)” was one of the first films to use underwater cinematography. Co-directed by oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Louis Malle, the film won an Oscar for Best Documentary in 1956. Shot aboard the ship Calypso, Cousteau and his team filmed for more than two years in the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Indian Ocean. New Albany resident Bob Braunbeck accompanied Cousteau on several ocean exploration trips as his director of aerial photography and helicopter pilot from 1975-90. He’ll present the screening of “The Silent World” Sunday at the Clifton Center, as part of the Wild and Woolly Film Series. —Sara Havens

louisvilleirish.com
Free; 3 p.m.

One of the first signs that spring is near has nothing to do with our moody weather — it’s time for the 40th annual Ancient Order of Hibernian’s St. Patrick’s Parade to flash its green and stroll down Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road. More than 50,000 residents either marched in or watched last year’s parade, and organizers are hoping to reach those numbers again. This year’s theme is “Forty Shades of Green,” so one can only imagine what kind of (hopefully) family-friendly floats we can expect. The parade starts at 3 p.m. at Baxter and Broadway and continues to Mid City Mall. Look out for the LEO Bus again this year … we’ve been practicing our waves. —Sara Havens

zanzabarlouisville.ticketfly.com
$8-$10; 9 p.m.

Hailed as a kind of shoegaze, psych-rock ensemble, Brooklyn band Heliotropes head to Louisville Saturday. You can safely throw stoner metal into the list of genre-specific descriptors that precede the band, as evidenced by the sludgy menace that leads Heliotropes to some well-earned Black Sabbath comparisons. Couple this with front woman Jessica Numsuwankijkul’s dreamy and lethargic voice, and Heliotropes proves to be more than just the sum total of their parts. Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, the band is touring in support of its impending full-length, The Constant Sea, to be released in the spring on Manimal Records. Joining them for this stop are Toronto rockers Belief, who bring their comparably lighter dream-pop as a counterbalance to the darker caverns Heliotropes mine. Opening is local indie band Gangly Youth. —Syd Bishop
